a free comic from a galaxy far far away…

as mentioned in my previous post there are a few things on my table right now. aside from RESISTANCE for wildstorm and NYX for marvel, the other fun little project is a short 8 page star wars story for dark horse comics. the little tale stars kit fisto during the clone wars era kicking some geonosian ass. the short is part of dark horse’s FREE COMIC BOOK DAY offering which contains a variety of stories from their stables.

i’ve taken the reigns fully on this little project and in turn am doing the full art chores all the way to colours. something i haven’t done for a mainstream comic since my days on spellgame for speakeasy comics back in 2005. the look of the story will be very much in the vein of kukuburi.

so come come may 2 2009 run down to your local comic shop and grab this little freebie. you’ll recognize it by the cover below…

resistance!

video games seem to be making their way into my life.

not in the traditional sense, since i don’t own a “video-game-machine.” so it was funny when i got sent a copy of resistance2 as reference for the new wildstorm series i’m working on!

but i digress.

as some of you may know i have taken a hiatus from my webcomics to focus on corporate work for the next couple months. my reasons are layered - but they are all in an effort to allow me to eventually dedicate more time to personal projects.

out of the many projects i am working on, a rundown which i will get to shortly, the one ready to hit the shelves before the end of the month is RESISTANCE from WILDSTORM. the story, based on the ps3 game, is the story of an elite team of six defending a 1950s america from the invading chimera.

art by ramon perez with colours by tony avina.

the series is 6 issues and i am doing the art (pencils & inks) on the 16pg lead story. it’s some great fun, the characters are interesting and there’s a nice does of action. the first issue a begins with a dog fight in the skies above alaska! joint the fight (so cheesy i know - but i couldn’t help myself) and reserve you’re copy today!!

as for other projects… more in a few days ;)

star wars : clone wars!

i’ve rejoined the galactic forces with my return to the star wars universe and dark horse comics. many moons ago i enjoyed leaving my stamp in lucas’ world when i worked on the rpg in it’s various incarnations, whether it was through west end games or wizards of the coast.

the image below is the cover to dark horse’s star wars: the clone wars v2, Crash Course. the listing states fellow artist and studio mate scott hepburn (who is working on his own star wars book, which looks phenomenal!) as the books cover artist… LIES, ALL LIES!

enjoy…

marvel’s nyx

recent months has seen my workload explode somewhat. hence why my online endeavours butternutsquash and kukuburi have gone on brief hiatuses. though the latter is back, butternut will return on september 25th.

the two main projects that kept me chained to the drafting table throughout the month of august were STAR WARS: CLONE WARS for Dark Horse Comics and NYX for Marvel Comics.

for the star wars project i pencilled issue 2 of a new series tied to the movie currently in theatres. the issue i believe is slated to come out in october. nyx sees me coming on board with issue 2 as inker on through issue 6. my first issue just hit the stands earlier this week so i feel it okay to share some pages from it. i’ve included kalman andrasofszky’s pencils beside my inks to show a little bit of the process. on an interesting aside this is the first time i’ve inked anyone aside from myself.

cheers.

and now for something a little different.

last month andy belanger and myself had an art show at local annex lounge insomnia. while andy’s show as taken down due to the monthly turn around of art shows, mine is staying up an extra month due to a cancelation.

the show, titled “andy and ramón take the call“, centres around the theme of phones.

this first piece, PHONESCAPE was a collaborative freeform effort between andy and myself and measures 40″x60″ and it glitters. listed at $600:

the next TOUCH TONE is a concept piece by myself. each wood canvas measures 10″x10″, for a combined area of 40″x55″ taking into account spacing. all the typography is hand painted, no stencils were used. due to the space chains were  used for hanging, though each piece has a individual sawtooth hangers for a clean personal installation.  listed price is $800.

the last piece is a diptych with a nod to hello kitty, with a slightly disturbing bent. it is a mixed media piece of layered gesso, acrylic and ink on a 20″x40″ canvas. listed price is $600.

if you’re in toronto swing by insomnia, enjoy some peculiar art and a fine meal.

and if you’re interested in any of the piece feel free to drop me a line…

cheers.

fan expo 2008!

a special thanks to all who made it out for this years fan expo. it was great meeting and sketching for you all.

as fate would have it i forgot my camera. but i did manage to lean over a few tables and grab my friend andy b’s camera when the thought finally occurred to me!

so here are a few snaps of some sketches i did. i wish i had better copies, but what can you do…

the baroness of g.i.joe fame:

black canary, green arrow’s dame debonair:

and last but not least, rusty the narcoleptic dog (of bns) and reggie (from kukuburi)

it was quite pleasant to hear the many requests for kukuburi prints of which, i unfortunately, had none. it’s been a crazy summer, but next year i promise you swag galore, a prints sooner than that…

a girl friday on a wednesday

it’s been a while since my last post for which i apologize. my workload for the past month has been tremendous. more on that another day, though.

right now i want a work escape, so i’m posting one of the pretty girls that meanders through my mind from time to time.

as well for those keen individuals who like to go to conventions and do convention like things i will be at the fan expo this weekend in toronto, and tentatively in montréal next month.

sketch extravaganza!

alright it’s not really an extravaganza as i only managed to snap a couple shots of the multitude of commissions i did at the toronto comicon a couple weekends ago. i can’t believe almost two weeks have flown by since that show! man. i want to post some of the cool work i’m doing right now, it’s really fun stuff, but unfortunately it’s all a big no-no till the official product is out! damn it.

i’m gonna try to doodle some fun stuff on the side to post here. something akin to morning warmups.

till then here are the two sketches i snapped pictures of before my camera died. we have hulk in his mr. fixit garb chillin’ out with a tumbler of whisky and jonah hex!

is it one x or two?

meh.
